STEVE BUTLER

From Marlow: now living in Marlow Bottom with Jo.

Work: Headteacher at Chartridge Combined School, Chesham. 210 children aged 5-11 years.

Interests: Keen on all sports, particularly football and running. No longer playing football - only with the school teams I manage. I run regularly - my 9th London Marathon this year - still aiming to break the elusive 3-hour mark (PB 3.03 at the moment!) Also enjoy all outdoor pursuits climbing, hiking etc and regularly get up the hills and mountains whenever I can.

Why taking part: Always keen for any physical challenges and the cycling challenge appealed to me having never taken part in any cycling long distance events in the past. More than that however has been the humbling and emotional days I experienced at the orphanage in Summer 06, 07. We are so lucky to have the lives we have, and these children having been through so much, have so little, yet deal with life brilliantly - always seeming to be smiling and coping with all they have been through remarkably. The children and the work others have done for them is inspirational and whatever I can do to help I will.
